Team Spotlight: Andy – Pre-Construction Manager

Posted in:

It’s time to go behind the scenes once again as we bring you another team spotlight. This month, it’s our Pre-Construction Manager, Andy Lillington’s turn to tell you about himself, his role, and his life at Blueprint Interiors.

Hi Andy, Tell us a little bit about your role

As Pre-Construction Manager, my role is to take the design brief we’ve defined with the client and make it a buildable space. I collaborate with them to develop specifications, meet subcontractors, develop costs, and turn the ideas we’ve dreamt up with the client into a reality.

Day-to-day can vary, but the majority of my time is spent costing and the rest of the time is working with our designers to decide on what we can do within the project budget. I look at how each building works to ensure we put the right products into the space and do everything possible to make project delivery easier for everyone involved. Everything up to the point of the project starting on-site is my responsibility.

What has been your favourite project to be a part of?

As I am fairly new to Blueprint, I haven’t seen too many projects from start to finish. We have done a project with a well-known pet care provider. For this particular project, we had a short window to achieve what the client wanted, and we not only completed it within the tight timescale but exceeded their expectations too, allowing them to hit their deadlines.

What is your favourite part about working at Blueprint Interiors?

I love the social aspect, as I only went into the office once a week at my previous company. Although that can work for some people, it wasn’t for me, so it’s really nice to come into an office every day that has people in. It’s a great environment and it’s got really great coffee too.

What’s your favourite area of work-life central?

I’d say the Project Lab because it’s the hub of WorkLife Central, especially for contract delivery, and it’s where we work with the designers to bring project briefs to life.

What’s your favourite part of the fit out process?

Being part of a process that gives a client an inspirational space at the end of it is quite cool. I’m able to see each idea become amazing new functional offices designed specifically for each client and that’s a great thing.

What’s the best lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?

Don’t worry about what you can’t control, as the uncontrollable will always happen. Instead, focus on how you deal with it, because that’s something in your control.

What’s a fun fact about you that people might not know?

Outside of work, I coach youth and junior American Football and I have just started a senior coaching role with Worcester Uni as well. It’s where I began my coaching journey so it’s a bit like going full circle. Having played American Football at university many years ago, coaching was the obvious next step. Then in 2014 one of my friends and former teammates said they were looking for someone to coach and I volunteered. It is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK and it’s good to see more people enjoying it.
