Blackburn College’s University Centre Library had potential. Plenty of it. But students weren’t spending their time there. For a college recently named one of the top three in England, that mattered. The facilities needed to reflect the quality of the education, support a better student experience and help the campus stand out in a competitive academic landscape.
Where we started
Where we focused
Student experience led every decision. The library needed to work for different ways of learning. Quiet study still mattered, but so did group work, digital learning and the social areas that make a campus feel alive. The space also had to support Blackburn College’s wider goals. Better facilities help attract students, keep them engaged and show prospective learners that the college is serious about their experience. We focused on making the library feel welcoming, useful and full of energy. Somewhere students could concentrate when they needed to, collaborate when it helped and feel proud to spend time.
