PROJECT PROFILE:
Location: Head Quarters, Ibstock, Leicestershire
Size:1550 sq ft, IS office and training suite
Scope:Interior design, full fit out package
Time scale: March '10, 3 weeks on site

step 1: brief

  • Relocation of IT department to the main building
  • To change the purpose of the area from a dated showroom with a meeting room to a functional IT training suite with meeting room facilities. The key – to maximise the use of unused yet prime workspace.
  • Transform from an under-used, dated and wasted showroom to a functional, state of the art, connected workspace for the IT department.
  • Allow the IT department to be in the heart of the business, instead of being in another building on the edge of the site

step 2: design

  • A change of purpose meant a change of design, from a showroom and meeting room to an IS office and training suite
  • Although an abundance of natural light from skylights, the need to control and maximise the lighting for office space was essential. By simply adding a suspended ceiling allowed for feature lighting to be put in, which was more controllable and also 100% indirect
  • With a new suspended ceiling and felt backed carpet acoustic properties were now suitable for office conditions
  • The meeting space was made into a feature by retaining the 6 window grid ceiling. With its central point in the office along with added facilities such as power sources makes it a practical and functional meeting space
  • Furniture was a simple but effective bench system, the need to maximise the workspace for the IT department was essential. By adding accessories such as monitor arms, allowed for technology to be appropriately stored and still gave employees the space they needed to work

step 3: implementation

  • A full fit-out package was provided for Ibstock Brick, which included the following:
  • General contracting works – such as electrics, new suspended ceiling, partitioning and lining of the walls to create a sharp, clean and fresh office space
  • New efficient lighting installation and feature lighting throughout
  • New carpet with inlay designs
  • Data, communications and electrical alterations
  • New bench desk system, screens, seating, storage and accessories provided
  • General and feature decoration, window dressing and graphics finished the look
